City of Spokane Valley awards $242k for tourism promotion

At its Dec, 11 meeting, the Spokane Valley City Council awarded $242,000 to help fund efforts by local entities that present or promote tourism opportunities in Spokane Valley.

The council approved funding to support 10 entities, including:
HUB Sports Center, $52,000
JAKT – Crave! Northwest, $21,500
JAKT – Farmers Market, $7,000
JAKT – Oktoberfest, $5,000
Spokane Co. Fair & Expo – Interstate Fair, $55,000
Spokane Co. Parks, Rec & Golf, $35,000
Spokane Valley Heritage Museum, $5,500
Valleyfest, $12,000
Valleyfest Cycle Celebration, $1,000
Visit Spokane, $48,000

The council also approved transferring $275,000 from the Lodging Tax Fund into a separate lodging tax fund account dedicated specifically for future capital costs of a large sports venue or tourism facilities that will generate overnight guests at Spokane Valley lodging facilities.

Generated by a 2-percent tax imposed on overnight stays in lodging within the city, Lodging Tax revenues are dedicated specifically to funding efforts that bring visitors to Spokane Valley and have a positive impact on our community’s economy.
