Peetz pulls ahead in council election

Managing Editor

Slow and steady, incumbent Brandi Peetz appears to be poised to hold her spot on the Spokane Valley City Council.

As of Tuesday evening, Peetz’s lead had widened to 382 votes over challenger Michelle Rasmussen, who trailed by only four votes on election night for Position 2.

Arne Woodward maintains a 55-percent advantage at Position 3 over Lance Gurel. And Tim Hattenburg has not lost much ground over Bo Tucker, leading with nearly 53 percent.

Should the results hold true, Hattenburg’s addition along with Peetz’s retention may shift the council to a more centrist stance. Hattenburg ran as Democrat against 4th District Sen. Bob McCaslin in 2004 and lost.

The council majority will choose its next mayor in January.
