The Spokane Valley Fire Department is planning an open house Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. with tons of hands-on activities, demonstrations, and plenty of photo opportunities with firefighter gear, firefighters, fire trucks (including the new Ladder 10, Smokey Bear, Sparky the Fire Dog and Mako the Retired Arson Dog.
Event Location: 2411 N. Pioneer Lane
The event is held at the SVFD Training Tower and Maintenance facility, located just east of Sullivan Road and north of the Spokane River, at 2411 N. Pioneer Lane.
To access from Sullivan Road, turn east on Marietta and follow the event parking signs.
Attendees can enjoy free hot dogs and refreshments all day. They can also visit with first responder partners from AMR Ambulance, Avista, the Department of Emergency Management, 9-1-1 Communications, the Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort’s Operation Family I.D. team and Spokane Clean Air.
Kids can complete a “Passport to Fun!” and earn prizes, and the department will be handing out cool free giveaways including a new SVFD wall calendar.
All-day demonstrations will include:
- Fire Safety House – practice “Two Ways Out” for home fire safety
- Kids Firefighter Challenge Course – pull and squirt a fire hose and more.
- Try CPR and load the free Pulse Point app on your phone
- Learn how to ‘Stop the Bleed’
10 a.m. – Gates Open

11:30 a.m. – High Angle Ropes Technical Rescue
Noon – Motor Vehicle Extrication – “Jaws of Life”

2:30 p.m. – Rescue 3 Helicopter Takes Off
