At its Jan, 9 meeting, the Spokane Valley City Council awarded $322,000 to help fund efforts by local entities that present or promote tourism opportunities in Spokane Valley.
The council approved funding to support nine entities, including:
- Oktoberfest, $10,000
- Crave! Northwest, $30,000
- Spokane Valley Heritage Museum, $13,000
- Spokane Co. Fair & Expo - Interstate Fair, $50,000
- Spokane Sports Commission, $80,000
- HUB Sports Center, $48,400
- Valleyfest, $18,600
- Valleyfest Cycle Celebration, $2,000
- Visit Spokane, $70,000
The council also approved transferring $250,000 of the budgeted $572,000 of total expenditures from the Lodging Tax Fund into a separate lodging tax fund account dedicated specifically for future capital costs of a large sports venue or tourism facilities that will generate overnight guests at Spokane Valley lodging facilities.
Generated by a two-percent tax imposed on overnight stays in lodging within the city, Lodging Tax revenues are dedicated specifically to funding efforts that bring visitors to Spokane Valley and have a positive impact on our community's economy.
