East Valley swimmer Ethan Downing has added two more events to his schedule later in February at the 2A state meet at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
Swimming in a co-op arrangement with Cheney High School's boys team, Downing captured first place in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly in a meet between the Blackhawks and Pullman last Saturday, Jan. 21, at Eastern Washington University's pool.
The Knights freshman touched the wall first in the IM in 2 minutes, 8.57 seconds, and won the butterfly with a time of 57.27. The state qualifying time for the IM is 2:10.50 and 57.50 for the butterfly.
Downing qualified for state in the 100 freestyle in a meet in Cheney on Jan. 12 against teams from Selah and East Valley-Yakima.
The Blackhawks swim their regular season finale this Saturday at Pullman, with district competition taking place Feb. 2–4 at Washington State University. The 2A/3A/4A state championships take place Feb. 17–18 in Federal Way.
