Spokane Valley Fire Department and Spokane Fire Department units were dispatched to Felts Field early Tuesday for a reported rescue involving a small aircraft.

Eight units in total responded at approximately 1:40 a.m. including command and support vehicles, said Shawn Pichette, SVFD spokesman.

Upon arrival, Spokane Engine 8 crews quickly made access to the runway and located the aircraft and determined it had been vacated.

Valley Engine 6 arrived on scene and firefighters proceeded to the air traffic control tower where they located the female pilot of the plane. After evaluation, the pilot was determined to be uninjured.
The plane was still fully intact with some obvious damage to the propellers and under side, no signs of fuel leaking or any other immediate hazards.

Spokane Engine 8 secured the aircraft site until representatives from Spokane International Airport arrived on scene and took over control and responsibility of the incident and the aircraft.

Both runways were shut down at the time of the incident, due to safety for everyone involved. It is unknown how long they would be shut down for. The Federal Aviation Administration and National
Transportation Safety Board were both notified of the incident.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation, and loss is yet to be determined.
