Spokane Valley Fire Department units responded to a reported warehouse fire in the 4300 block of North Barker Road at 5:12 p.m. Nov. 2.
The caller reported seeing flames and heavy smoke coming from a large shop just south of Trent Avenue, said Melanie Rose, department spokeswoman.
The first SVFD unit on the scene, and personnel observed fire and smoke coming from all sides of a large single story commercial lumber warehouse. The fire was upgraded to a working fire bringing more firefighting resources to the scene.
Firefighters quickly extinguished a propane-fueled forklift on fire inside the unoccupied warehouse. Two of the four large roll-up doors had been blown off the structure and two additional doors were damaged, suggesting an explosion of some type. The facility was unoccupied and no firefighter injuries were reported.
A total of 16 fire department apparatus and support vehicles responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
