The Spokane Valley Fire Department board of fire commissioners has appointed Patrick Burch to fill a vacancy on the board.
Burch was selected following interviews with five residents interested in filling the position. He will serve the community by overseeing the affairs of the department as one of five members of the board.
The vacancy was created in June when Commissioner Kolby Hanson resigned due to work obligations. Hanson had served on the board since January 2002.
Burch has been a Spokane Valley resident for 15 years and lives here with his family. He is co-owner and Business Manager of Neurotherapy Northwest. He has been involved with the Spokane Valley Fire Department since 2008 as a volunteer member of the Community Emergency Response Team and currently as a team leader/member of Fire Corps. He is also Scoutmaster of Troop 418.
“I love to serve and I love my association with the Spokane Valley Fire Department,” Burch said. “Their dedication to our community, fiscal responsibility and the fact that they are one of the few accredited fire departments in the State of Washington all make SVFD great. I admire the department’s focus on continuous improvement. I am excited to broaden my SVFD role and give back to the entire community.”
Burch holds a bachelor’s degree in operations management and management information systems from Eastern Washington University and a MBA from Washington State University. He has previously held positions with Boeing and MediServ. He also served in the Naval Reserves from 1991-1999.
As the individual appointed to this non-partisan position, Burch must run for elected office in November 2017 to fill the unexpired term. The term expires in December 2019. A fire commission term is six years.
