Those living in the Ponderosa neighborhood or other points south of Spokane Valley may have noticed a request from Spokane County Fire District 8 to approve a maintenance-and-operations levy.
The levy rate amounts to 50 cents per $1,000 in assessed property value, or about $100 annually for a $200,000 home. If approved, the levy rate would then set at $2.50 per $1,000 in assessed property value.
The levy is to maintain the current levels of service for the fire district, which serves Ponderosa, Moran Prairie, Valleyford and the Saltese areas.
The Spokane County Elections Office mailed out more than 205,000 ballots last week. Valley-area residents are also being asked to approve a library bond request to build a new main branch across from University City, a new branch in Greenacres and to expand and renovate the Argonne branch.
Those who did not receive a ballot can call the elections office at 477-2320.
Ballots must be mailed and postmarked by Election Day, Aug. 4.
