Here’s how good the Freeman Scotties are: They can spot playoff-hungry teams 20 points before even getting started.
So it was Saturday, when undefeated Freeman allowed Cashmere to ratchet up a 20-point lead – an extra-point attempt bounced off the upright at one point – in the first quarter of the state 1A qualifier at Albi Stadium.
After that, it was all Freeman, who came back to win 28-20. The Scotties took the lead in the fourth quarter with 10:06 left in the game with Markus Goldbach’s touchdown reception. The defense did the rest for the remainder of the game, which gave Freeman a chance to get a final score.
The 13-0 Scotties will now play fourth-ranked, 11-1 Mount Baker on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Tacoma Dome.
