Valleyfest, Doering recognized

Managing Editor

Last week, Mayor Tom Towey recognized Valleyfest and its volunteers as the winner of this month's Community Recognition Award.
Each month, as a part of the celebration of Spokane Valley's 10-year anniversary, a Key to the City is presented to an individual or organization that has had a positive impact on the community or neighborhood.
Spokane Valley citizen Rick Hayward nominated Valleyfest because of its many benefits to the public. Among the offerings of the festival, Hayward highlighted the low- and no-cost entertainment provided to all ages in a family friendly atmosphere during the three-day event. Hayward said that the festival has provided "our only home grown celebration of ourselves" for over 10 years. He also emphasized the importance of an occasion that allows the community to get together and collectively take pride in its identity.
The city of Spokane Valley encourages community members to nominate for recognition those individuals/organizations/businesses whose efforts have contributed positively to the Spokane Valley community. Information on the program and nomination forms can be found at spokanevalley10.com by selecting the Community Recognition button or by calling 720-5102.
Nominations must be received by Oct. 5 to be considered for next month's selection process; however, all nominations will be kept on file for future consideration.
