Come review Appleway Trail Draft Master Plan

Managing Editor

All are invited to review the Draft Master Plan for the proposed Appleway Trail on Wednesday, May 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. at CenterPlace Regional Event Center (2426 N. Discovery Place).

Developed with input from the community gathered at the first meeting in March, the draft plan includes ideas that will help provide an attractive alternative commuting route and recreational area for community members to meet and enjoy the outdoors.

The proposed trail would run down the old Milwaukee Railroad right-of-way, which starts at the east end of Appleway Blvd. at University Road and continues east to Evergreen Road.

City of Spokane Valley Public Works staff, Parks and Recreation staff and design planning consultants will be available to answer questions and gather input on the features and amenities to the trail, such as:

  • A meandering pathway;
  • Casual seating areas;
  • Space for potential community gardens;
  • Grasses and wildflowers;
  • Shade trees;
  • Birdhouses, and more.

An interlocal agreement between Spokane County, which owns the right-of-way, and the city of Spokane Valley allows the corridor to be developed for enjoyment by the community as a trail until it is needed for other transportation purposes.
