Spokane Valley launches 2013 Community Recognition Program

Managing Editor

As the city of Spokane Valley marks its tenth year of incorporation in 2013, Mayor Tom Towey and the Spokane Valley City Council want to celebrate the people, organizations and businesses that have helped the city become a friendly, welcoming and prosperous community.

The city is asking Spokane Valley residents to submit nominations for its Ten Year Anniversary Community Recognition Program. Each month throughout 2013, Towey and the City Council will select an honoree from the nominations submitted to be recognized at a City Council meeting and awarded a Key to the City.

"There are lots of individuals, groups, and entities out there that deserve recognition for their efforts," said Mayor Tom Towey. "We want the people of Spokane Valley to tell us who they are and why they deserve to be recognized."

Towey emphasized that nominees don't have to be high profile or widely recognized. "We want to hear about the neighbors who help each other; the businesses that provide jobs; the programs that provide important services; the organizations that hold great community events; and the volunteers who help build our community."

To be considered for the January Community Recognition Program award, nominations are being accepted from residents of the city of Spokane Valley now through Jan. 7, 2013. Nominations through the rest of the anniversary year can be made at any time until Dec. 6 of 2013. Each subsequent month's honorees will be selected from all nominations received to date.

Nomination forms may be completed online at www.spokanevalley10.com by selecting the Community Recognition Program link. Printed nomination forms, which include instructions for submittal, can be found at Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, Spokane Valley Heritage Museum, the Spokane Valley branch of the Spokane County Library District, Spokane Valley Partners, Spokane Valley Fire Department stations and at city offices.
